Need an answer for authorization to wear a unit's combat patch

Ok so i have been in Iraq for 6 months now, and when i got here my home unit sent me to work with a different unit, everything i do over here is in direct support to the other unit not my home unit.  The only thing my home unit deals with is my promotions and leave.  So the question is am i authorized to wear the unit that i am directly supported to unit patch as my combat patch? Also if so, what regulation states this? I have asked so many different people and i get a different answer everytime, I am active duty and you would think one of my NCOs would have the right answer but no one really knows.  The unit i am DS for allows me to wear their patch, but my home unit does not. I am so confused on what is authorized, so i can show my home unit that i am authorized to wear my DS unit's patch. Thank you..Army strong baby!

yes you are aauthorized they only thing you need the unit memo authorizing to wear there combat patch with that memo singed by the bdg commander then you can wear it but with out that memo you cant unless you have proving document that you got attached to a different unit for that period of time

Re: Need an answer for authorization to wear a unit's combat patch

IAW 670-1 you are authorized to wear the combat patch of the lowest echelon above you that is authorized their own SSI. Translation if your unit does not have their own unique SSI (shoulder sleeve insignia) you will wear the SSI as your combat patch of the lowest echelon above you which is authorized their own SSI. For example I served in a BN that did not have its own unique SSI, so when it came time for our statement of service we were authorized to wear the combat patch of MNC-I because it was the lowest echelon above us that was authorized their own unique SSI. Bottom line when it comes time to re-deploy you will receive your statement of service which will list your authorized combat patch or patches. If you or your unit were providing support for another unit you will need that other unit to write a letter recognizing this and also authorizing wear of that units combat patch. Keep in mind that statement of service can not come from just any soldier in that unit, it needs to come from generally a BN CDR or higher. Hopefully your chain of command is on top of this.
