Three Tennessee Guardsmen Die In Iraq
The 278th guardsmen were part of a patrol investigation when a rocket-propelled grenade hit their vehicle.
The soldiers were identified as Staff Sergeant Asbury Hawn, II, 35, of Lebanon, Sergeant Shannon Taylor, 30, of Smithville, and Sergeant Gary Reese, 22, of Ashland City.
James Kevin Downs, 20, from Kingston Springs survived the attack but was listed in critical condition in a German hospital.
All I can say right now is that this did take place at Bernstein and that it wasn't a rocket-propelled grenade, but rather an ied because of operations security. We deeply mourn the loss of these three soldiers at Bernstein, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families, and our brother in arms Spc. Downs and his family, as well. I didn't know any of these fine men, but God be with them. We are doing everything we can to bring those responsible to justice. Keep praying for these men and their families, and for the rest of us in the 278th and others across Iraq. You can go
here for the Iraq Coalition Casualty count.
