As some of you may recall, Ryan wrote a post recently about the weird animals and bugs he's encountered while in Iraq. One of the weirdest had to be the “hissing bug” he described:

“The weirdest insect I would have seen so far is this weird hissing bug we found last week. It looked a lot like a grasshopper except that it had pinchers and feet with toes. It was probably the nastiest little critter that I’ve ever seen. One of our interpreters said that the bug latches onto the body and literally cuts into the muscle. We didn’t let it hang around long enough for any of us to see that sort of thing happen.”

Now, thanks to fellow Army Advice blogger Jim Mahurin, I think we MIGHT have a picture of said creature. I haven't confirmed with Ryan, but this bug does, in fact, have toes. Want to see?
