Hey everybody,

If I had two words to sum up the past week, those would be it... sadness and scorpions.

Sadness because today for the third time at FOB Bernstein we stopped to remember one of our own.

Last week Team Henchmen lost one hell of a soldier when on the 9th of June, we lost SSG Mark Edwards of Unicoi County.

I didn't know SSG Edwards personally, and it took me a while to put a face on him. I hate to say that I didn't know him better having served in the same company with him since December. But from what I hear he was a top-notch soldier who loved his country and loved his job. But most importantly he loved his family and his faith. We take comfort in that he didn't leave us at the hands of the insurgency and the lord took him in peace while he was sleeping.

Please remember SSG Edward's wife Kim and his children in your prayers.

In other news, and what I consider a good serving of irony.. I got stung by a scorpion the other night.

Irony because I had just posted about all of the critters I've come in contact with over here just a week ago, and about 5 minutes before I was stung I was talking to Sgt. Adams about scorpions. I was stung Friday night around 1 in the morning as I took my last step into my chu for the night. I was wearing flip-flops and the sucker got me on the second toe of my left foot. It turned out to be a yellow scorpion, which isn't deadly but can make you reallly sick. I went to the medical center and I was very lucky because I didn't get injected with any venom. They doped me up on Benedryl and sent me on my way after observation.

I also just sent off my latest story for the Times Free Press, it is a really touching story about a village rebuilding after being removed by Saddam. It will probably run this Sunday.

That's all for now,

God Bless
