Election success
Hey everybody,
Well this is the first post-election post for me and it looks as if everything came out successfully.
We worked our butts off in the past week getting prepared for it, putting in several 11-12 hour days. But from what I hear, there was a huge turnout and not as many attacks as we anticipated.
I spent the entire day out in the middle of nowhere at an Iraqi Army checkpoint providing security. There wasn't much going on because the Iraqi government restricted all movement on vehicles for the elections. So all I saw all day were Iraqi Army vehicles, election officials and ambulances. It was extremely boring, but of course that is a good thing.
I just hope that the success of the election causes a domino effect on the rest of the country and hopefully things will start calming down now. In my opinion the insurgents have nothing left worth fighting for, except to disrupt the new government in place.
I just wanted to get on here to let everyone know that we are doing fine and that we are very proud that there were no deaths or injuries from my FOB throughout the election period.
I'll post again maybe today or tomorrow. I haven't had the chance to think of something really insightful yet, but I'm working on it!
God Bless
Ryan
